:::::A NOTE::::: This method is for hair dryers ONLY! If you do this with a heat gun, even on the lowest of settings, that’s dangerous and stupid, as they put out MICH MORE HEAT! AND don’t leave it unsupervised, that’s dangerous too! And it’s smart, ALWAYS, to have fire safety equipment in your shop, and to know how to use it properly! Be safe and smart!

In this video, I show you a near-free shop hack for drying your spray painted items in approximately 1/3 of the time it takes without this tip!

:::::A NOTE::::: As always I’ve heard from a small, vocal group of safety police that have reminded me to remind you that this is for hair dryers ONLY! i personally mod and customise keyboards and this is rather useful since when spray painting/hydro dipping a case or keycaps it takes rathher a long time to dry thx

I am going to have to try this and see how well it works. I want it to dry my spray paint art on assorted types of canvas (wood, cloth etc.) but I don't want to use the flame thrower option 😉 – Heidi

Old hair dryers from Goodwill are cheap and easy to replace.
Also use to remove stickers

Do you think this same process would work for stained wood too ?

Eh, I just leave stuff to dry overnight. I work during the day and hack at night so I can spare the time.

I am working on a paint corner so as not to unintentionally paint the entire shop, so I will add this to the plan. Great timing on this tip!!!

I usually paint what i need to and then impatiently have to touch it every 20 minutes, leaving fingerprints instead of, just letting it dry

Good stuff, Drew. This is a trick I learned from a guy in our scale modeling club so he can dry his models faster after airbrushing. However, he uses an old food dehydrator. I took one I had and used sheet styrene to expand the chamber. As long as I run it below 140°F – 150°F, I'm in no danger of warping the styrene. I also use it to cure paint in scale figurines.

Check Dan Gelbart's video on finishing. It's a bit long. But the tip on using ajax or comet to get paint and powdercoat to adhere super solidly is gold.

Hair dryers usually have hi and lo settings. Is there a preference. Can you dry too quickly" so the end result looks weird, you know crinkly?
Would it be helpful to put the object in the box and preheat before spraying.
Thanking you in advance.
