Technical Notes:
1) This tutorial is also applicable to iPhones, so long as they’re running on iOS version 13.
3) This tutorial is from the point of view that you are setting up parental controls from the parent’s device. Once the child account and parental controls are setup on the parent’s device, you can then unbox your child’s iPad or iPhone and log into it with the Child Account you created in the tutorial.
4) The settings I provide are only guidelines. Each parent should decide the restriction settings that are appropriate for their family.

What if I have an iPad and iPhone connected to my iCloud account? I put my child’s iCloud account in when first turning the iPad on is there a way to limit things still.

To add a family member now you have to enter a credit card. What relevance does that have with this activity?? There is such a thing as requiring too much information.

If you feel the need to set this up for your child, maybe you shouldn't be giving them a device like this.

Monitoring and controlling your children to this extent is child abuse. As more of more of adolescence and teenage development is spent in cyberspace, Children need to be able to explore the way children in a pre-internet/phone era did. Children would go and play and explore but, more importantly, were able to have time alone with their peers to develop their own personality.

You can be open with your child and allow them to explore. You can create dialogue with your child and guide them enough to know that if they are exploring in either digital or real life, they will have the tools to handle their situations and use it as a learning opportunity.

These controls are designed for parent's who are too lazy to properly be a parent for their child or for parent's who wish to stunt their children's development as a normal person due to underlying mental illnesses of the parent. Either way, both are abuse

Apple make it far too hard, and do far to little, to prevent children from accessing adult material on their devices!

For the love of god turn that music off! Parents tend to be over 12 years old they can cope without the music- the level of which is set ridiculously high . This video is utterly unwatchable because of it and yet again my tume has been wasted by simeone who has no idea how to communicate .

This is all great… However how do you change your iPad to become your child’s iPad so that you can link the family sharing account that you’ve just created. I’m stuck… Please help

Why on earth is screentime defined by downtime and not by uptime? Makes absolutely no sense, mind twisting approach… And cannot define more than one downtime per day, like 2am ~ 8am and 6pm to 12am on Sundays… not very well thought through by Apple…

Apple never make user friendly system. If someone has two or devices it should ask first, you want to synchronize all devices or keep it separate.

Why would anyone go to all this trouble to identify their child, child's age, address, and direct outside line to your child.? This has a very strange vibe to it. Who Governing Goliath anyway? Are they legit?

Thanks for the support! My sister is about to go to kindergarten.. she plays online games that makes her rage and scream in anger, she’s been watching scary and inappropriate videos on YouTube account- she’s been cursing a lot now, it’s not acceptable for in my family. I’m scared she will be suspended for saying mean and rude things, this helped a lot!! Thanks.

This video doesn't does not make sense at all. It still doesn't answer the question on how to open an account for my child on an iPhone????? She is 9 and it does not allow her to open an account. I use android I don't have an iPhone, I don't have an account, dont want one. In this video you use your own sign in??? Seriously?

I do not want Apple to track my children’s info. Can you develop a video without setting up a child account

Reply

But how do you change between a child account and your regular account when you turn on the iPad? Thanks

Reply
Janet Sheppard 28/08/2021 - 21:41

when setting up iPad for my grandkid, it gets stuck at security questions. I choose and answer the 3 questions, but the ‘next’ button on the upper right of screen doesn’t light up. So I can not go to the next step. I tried choosing all questions first and then typing answers, but no luck. Also tried other variations.

Ok so everything is set up, but my iPad is still seeing me as main account so everything is still visible and accessible. Nice that my kids account is now limited but how do i set my iPad to his account then? I can also set screen time settings on my own account but then every time i turn them off again to use the iPad myself and want to turn them on again for my kid to use I have to set up everything all over again…
