Hello, how do you clean the glass plate after? especially after dealing with a toxic pigment like lead white?

I recently bought some lead flake to use in my paint gesso, and now I think I might put it up on e-bay…

I wish you had shown the process of getting it into a tube… that part is more mysterious than mulling… LOL

Lis Engel 25/08/2021 - 22:41

Nice its good to see it done in practice but I missed to see how you put it into the tubes – could you show that too?

For your grinding plate/glass slab, do you have to prepare it with silicon carbide? I want to get into paint making, and I know that the mullers should be sanded with that substance.

Coming from the cosmetics industry, this to me looks like a job for a three roll mill!

this looks more like titanium dioxid than with lead carbonate, lead carbonate is very very transparent
Instead of adding Zinc along with titanium, it is better to use calcium carbonate.
All oil paint made of titanium needs a filler otherwise the paint will be pasty and self-leveling

Hey I was wondering about the respirator you are using in the video. What brand is it and where did you buy it? I looked for battery-powered respirators on dickblick.com but could not find any. There are a bewildering array of powered respirators on the market. Some cost more than $1000. I'm not sure how much protection I need for occasional paint grinding.

I know I can buy oil paint from the shops but I feel there isn't a massive range of colours so making your own is good plus I found a place where you can get custom dyes

Do you use stabilizers like, aluminum stearate or anything like that? Or are they not needed when making "at home".
I have a few pigments laying around and want to start making my own oils. I have PY1, PB29, PW6, PR255 and PG21. I also have aluminum stearate, wollastonite and fumed silica (my new favorite additive). Tks john
