What happened to Skype?

All of a sudden, video calls have become a part of our daily lives. From university classes and business meetings to birthdays and yoga. Online is the new normal and will be for a while. Fortunately, there are plenty of options: Zoom, Meet, and Microsoft’s own Teams. But, there’s a name that seems to have disappeared. A name, mind you, that no so long ago was the go-to program for video calls.

What happened to Skype? It’s safe to say that, if all of this happened, say, in 2010, we would’ve been Skyping. But now, we’re doing anything but Skyping. What happened? We’ll tell you, in this episode of Company Forensics.

hahaha Discord is actually the new king. Too bad Microsoft screws everything they touch… no gates, no deal. I never heard of zoom or team XD

Martin Latvian 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I remember times when I could use older versions of Skype and avoid updates til Microsoft got me in a corner and I did delete the app. Then I moved to whatsapp and messenger videocall but it sucks cause it drains too much of my device battery. I actually came across this video cause I'm looking for a videocall app which is the best for phone which doesnt heat my processors and kill my battery, but just does one simple thing. Converts video to data and back and no other bullshit.

How do I uninstall skype from my pc? It's harder to get rid off than an actual virus..

Manam Setty 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Pepe the frog 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I use skype every saturday and sunday to have a talk with my friend from the uk

Gkez Ad 09/09/2021 - 05:38

No, i wouldn't pay $8,6bn for a lesson..

AVS_1604 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I for Skype!

Arush Usnale 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I for skype

atul kumar 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I think they just built teams.. and let Skype die

RotsteinKatze 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Ah yes, this shity Teams calls. Awful Audio quality and Power hungry sharing of your screen compared to Discord (wich is buy the way Free, what Teams isnt)

HerrMagic Nils 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I stoped using skype after Teamspeak and Discord come up

xXmlgamingXx 09/09/2021 - 05:38

At the end of the day, the most reliable video and audio calling program would be discord (which is run by the smallest company when compared with Skype and zoom so that’s kind of ironic)

AVS_1604 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Skype is not dead, I for skype

Mingura666 09/09/2021 - 05:38

They killed my precious Windows Live Messenger, they deserve all the bad that happened to them!

Mx Bx 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Teams is an absolute dog – awful UI/UX, the video quality is mediocre and the whole thing is waaaay too resource intensive (although improving). I'm also having issues with missing IMs because it doesn't always update the chat history when out of focus. And the toast notifications are annoying af.

Microsoft Lync and Skype for Business were absolutely fine and didn't need to be changed. Unfortunately my employer has retired both ages ago and we are now officially Teams-only – your Azure AD account cannot even log into the other services anymore and they pushed out a system update to remove them from your machines.

seenic 09/09/2021 - 05:38

it wasnt microsoft that killed skype

it was Discord

Rusty Blader 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I used to use skype alot myself but idk why when micorsoft bought skype it slowly felt more and more bloated and unresponsive. So I eventually gave up and moved on to literally anything else to put less strain on my devices.

youluvana 09/09/2021 - 05:38

They made the app worse. Even simple things became difficult. Like adding friends or fully closing the app. Less customizable and the setting that remained were confusing and hidden as much as possible.

Dave Knight 09/09/2021 - 05:38

1 simple reason, horrible signup

Robert C 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I don’t know if Skype is ruined. I still use it.

Sherm Squarepants 09/09/2021 - 05:38

It started when msn was dropped to focus on skype
Not hating on skype tho! Used it many years

cooledits_com Shorts 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I wish Skype would go back to the old Skype sounds

Martin Rotaveria 09/09/2021 - 05:38

A good thing with Skype was that you always had a perfect excuse for not replying some IM or miss a call. You just said "you know, Skype didnt notify me" and everybody would understand.

Aditya Acharya 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Microsoft is well known to f**k things up, zune, windows phone, Nokia etc.

geo_madness 09/09/2021 - 05:38

microsoft ruins literally anything it consumes so

Ayanda Mkize 09/09/2021 - 05:38

I think sometimes it depends from which region people were in especially will internet broadband speeds and coverage were we are from we all knew about Skype but the internet was pathetic back in the early 2000s.So making a data call was not worth it due bandwidth limitations. We were hung upon making voice calls on mobile phones. and just having internet at College or in the office on your Desktop computer.

Tom Slick 09/09/2021 - 05:38

What's Skype? LOL
I used Skype on Linux. Microsoft said, "Don't worry."

stfu 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Microsoft SUCKS

SillyStudios 09/09/2021 - 05:38

Whenever I FaceTime my grandma she says are we ‘skyping’ today

VaporBoi1 09/09/2021 - 05:38

it would ruin it

Deathaxel1998 09/09/2021 - 05:38
