Thanks for this Peter. Explaining about standing further back from the painting AND holding the brush correctly is so important. I know these things BUT I need reminding! Holding the brush better can only improve my painting. I'm a very early beginner and this video has rammed home the fact that I do in fact hold my brush like a pencil!! Thanks for this! 👍🖌️

Great things to keep in mind! I've just recently returned back to my watercolors, and every one of these will be useful in improving my paintings.

Your points were extremely helpful, ty. I’ve been 🎨 now over a year, learning on my own, & hadnt heard most of those tips. I was doing several of those problematic “methods.” I was painting too close, for too long w/o taking breaks, & I think I probably do use too small of. Brush on occasion I had no idea initially, the real purpose of a long handle vs a short handle.

Like Jerry Yarnell says don't piddle, putter or play. Added to What Peter says it makes a lot of sense. Now…I've got to put more of Peters advice into action. Used some of it today. I've got to loosen up. Everytime time I've tried I've created a mess except for the last time I tried to loosen up. I used Yarnells advice and some of Peters too. The painting I did today is the only attempt at loosening up that did not end up filed in the circular file. It isn't good but it isn't total trash either.

I watched this little video several months ago and boy, has it helped! I can still tend to get too fussy but then I take a breath and remember, "oh yeah!" and pull back a bit. What used to seem like HUGE brushes are now normal for me (maybe it's time to go even bigger) and the tiny brushes have dust on them while my style has loosened up some. Thanks for this video!

1. Stand back : put distance between painting and you.
2. Hold brush correctly : don't hold it like pencil.
3. Use the right brush : use wider brush.
4. Take a break : every 15 minute or so.
5. Paint with confident : confidence and nervousness can be seen in your painting!
